Pax Forlag was founded in 1964 with the purpose of stimulating the new leftist movement in Norwegian sciences, culture and politics. The publishing house sprang out of Pax, a pacifist magazine published by the cross-party organization Folkereisning mot krig (the Norwegian division of War Resisters International) since 1962.
In the two first decades of its history, Pax Forlag played a vital role in the cultural and political development in Norway. Not only did it represent something that can be vaguely named the zeitgeist around the mid 60s, Pax Forlag also added flavour to the development of the cultural climate and politics in Norway. Both the national and the international publishing industry have undergone significant changes over the last few years, which Pax also has had to adjust to. In 2023, Pax Forlag joined forces with the publishing houses Forlaget Press, Spartacus, Dreyer, and Omnipax to form the publishing group Forente Forlag.
Having celebrated our 60th anniversary in 2024, Pax Forlag is still a vital publishing house which publishes international fiction, and Norwegian and international non-fiction and academic literature of high standards.
